What to expect
A one way road journey across Morocco’s most striking landscapes, beginning near the Atlantic coast and finishing in Marrakech. The route moves from the agricultural plains of central Morocco into the cedar forests and high passes of the Middle Atlas, then descends through the Ziz Valley to the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
From Merzouga, the ride continues across open stone desert to the Todra Gorge, the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs and the fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou. A final crossing of the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass brings the journey to its finish in the Red City.
Expect sweeping roads, frequent changes in altitude and scenery, memorable cultural stops and a satisfying progression from coast to mountains, desert and city.
Welcome to Morocco. As you arrive in Casablanca, the warm Atlantic air, palm-lined streets and unmistakable energy of the city offer your first taste of what lies ahead. After your transfer and hotel check-in, take some time to settle in and soak up the atmosphere.
In the evening, meet your fellow riders and the TerraMotion team over a welcome dinner. We’ll introduce the journey ahead, run through the route and practical details, and answer any last questions before setting off on the adventure the following morning.

Approximate distance: 270 km
We will start from our base beside the Atlantic Ocean in Dar Bouazza. Leaving the Casablanca coastline behind, we ride across the agricultural plains of Chaouia towards Settat and Beni Mellal. As the road approaches the Middle Atlas, the landscape becomes increasingly mountainous before revealing the turquoise waters of Bin El Ouidane Lake.
Depending on time and eather, we will make an optional detour to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landmarks.

Approximate distance: 250 km
For our second day, we’ll ride into the heart of the Middle Atlas. The road climbs through changing elevations, sweeping bends and extensive forests of cedar and holm oak. It is a wonderfully varied stage, combining engaging riding with the cooler, greener landscapes of Morocco’s mountain interior.
Our destination is Azrou, a traditional Berber town known for its cedar craftsmanship, lively market and surrounding forests, where macaques still roam freely.

Approximate distance: 210 km
Day three offers a stark transition from the green Middle Atlas to the arid landscapes of southern Morocco. We begin by passing through Ifrane, a mountain town situated at an altitude of 1650m it was created by the French protectorate in the 1930s to escape from the heat. They built stone chalets and steep roofs inspired by Asutrian and Swiss villages, which have earned it the nickname “Little Switzerland of Morocco.”
From there, the route crosses the Zad Pass before beginning a long descent towards the pre Saharan plateau. Forested mountains gradually give way to open, ochre coloured landscapes as we approach Errachidia.

Approximate distance: 140 km
Although shorter in distance, this is one of the tour’s most spectacular stages. The road winds through the Ziz Gorge before opening onto extraordinary views over the Ziz Valley and its seemingly endless ribbon of palm groves.
After passing through Erfoud, Morocco’s fossil capital, the first dunes appear on the horizon. By the time we reach Merzouga, the paved road has carried us all the way to the edge of the Sahara and the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Approximate distance: 200 km
Leaving the dunes behind, we cross the stark beauty of the hamada, Morocco’s vast stone desert. Open horizons, isolated villages and mineral landscapes give this stage a remote and adventurous character.
Gradually, the scenery changes again as we approach the oasis of Tinghir and the entrance to the Todra Gorge. Here, sheer rock walls rise dramatically on either side of the road, reaching heights of up to 300 metres.

Approximately:
Today we follow the legendary Route of a Thousand Kasbahs through some of southern Morocco’s most iconic scenery. The road passes palm filled valleys, earthen villages and the rose growing region around Kelaat M’Gouna before continuing towards Ouarzazate, Morocco’s celebrated film capital.
The day ends at Aït Ben Haddou. Rising above the desert landscape, this remarkably preserved fortified village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most recognisable landmarks.

Approximate distance: 200 km
The final ride delivers one last unforgettable mountain crossing. From Aït Ben Haddou, the road climbs into the High Atlas towards the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres.
A succession of sweeping bends, panoramic viewpoints and mountainside Berber villages leads us across the pass before the long descent towards Marrakech. The tour concludes in the Red City, surrounded by the energy of Jemaa el Fna, the medina and its colourful souks.
